American Military Conducts Lethal Attack in Pacific, Resulting in Four Fatalities

As stated by a senior defense spokesperson, the American armed forces carried out a fatal strike on a boat in the eastern Pacific, killing four people.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a deadly attack on a vessel linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Surveillance confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established narco-trafficking route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. A total of four male drug traffickers were killed, and no American forces were harmed.”

Background and Prior Strikes

The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, vowing to increase the military buildup.

Only on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Justifies Tactics Amid Scrutiny

The government has encountered growing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a successful operation, saying it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the limits of legal military action.

While the administration has said the campaign is about halting drugs headed to the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to confirm a wider political aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff said the leader “aims to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be part of a push to remove Venezuela's current government.
