Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat

Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his future after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from management,” Slot commented.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”

He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Problems and Squad Response

The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with performances so bad.”

Jones concluded, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always fight.”

“Our aim is to get this team return to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
