Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to begin their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as important members in the powerful family could enable the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Seekers and Planners groups.

Viewers can look forward to learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
