Detonations and Low-Altitude Aircraft Witnessed in Venezuelan Capital City Caracas

Witness testimonies emerged of multiple explosions and the roar of low-flying planes in the Venezuelan capital in the early hours of Saturday morning. The event has prompted claims from Venezuela's leadership and calls for international action.

Caracas Blames United States of Attack

The incumbent administration has condemned the Washington of committing "imperial aggression," alleging that former President Donald Trump supposedly ordered strikes against the South American state. In an official declaration, the authorities asserted that attacks had impacted the capital and several other states: Miranda state, La Guaira state, and Aragua state.

"Our primary goal of these strikes is to seize control of our nation's natural resources, notably its petroleum and minerals," the government asserted.

Caracas urged the world to condemn the actions, which it termed a "clear infringement of global law" that placed countless of civilians in danger.

Accounts of Blasts and Military Installations Hit

Residents reported experiencing approximately several explosions around 2:00 AM in the morning. People in several areas reportedly hurried into the open.

"Everything shook. This is frightening. We experienced explosions and planes in the distance," commented one witness.

Smoke was observed rising from key defense sites in the city: the La Carlota airfield and the Fuerte Tiuna base compound, where leader Nicolás Maduro is believed to reside.

Global Condemnation

The leader of bordering Colombia, stated on social media that "At this moment they are attacking Venezuela... bombing it with rockets." He called for an immediate emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

Colombia, which recently became a member of the Security Council, said it would activate operational plans at its frontier with its neighbor.

Preceding Events

These alleged strikes follow a months-long military buildup by the US against the Venezuelan regime. Beginning in August, authorities reported a substantial naval deployment off Venezuela's northern coast and a number of strikes on vessels suspected of drug trafficking.

The government has stated "the implementation of emergency" and ordered all defense measures to be activated. It has also summoned its supporters to protest and "denounce this foreign aggression."

US authorities and the US Department of Defense have not promptly commented on inquiries for clarification regarding the reports.
