Instructor Fatally Shot and 25 Female Students Kidnapped in Firefight at Educational Institution in Nigeria

Weapon-carrying attackers have fatally shot an educator and abducted at least 25 students in an raid targeting a female high school in Nigeria's northwestern region, authorities have confirmed.

The armed faction stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Kebbi State's Maga area at around 4 AM local time on the beginning of the work week, authorities reported.

The armed individuals "engaged police personnel on duty in a firefight" before breaching the school's outer barrier and seizing the students from their living quarters, an official report indicated.

An educational worker was killed while trying to protect the students. A second sustained gunshot wounds and is now receiving treatment.

Witnesses reported a sizeable number of assailants, known locally as bandits, who appeared discharging weapons intermittently to cause panic.

Community members informed journalists that the attackers afterwards forced a number of girls into nearby bushland.

The police said they had deployed "extra specialized police forces, alongside military personnel and local protection units" to the area.

A coordinated search and rescue operation is currently ongoing in nearby woodlands and believed flight corridors.
