Locating the Venezuelan-affiliated Vessel 'Pursued' by American Maritime Authorities

We are analyzing images and video circulated this morning that show the aftermath of a reported vehicle-borne explosive explosion that authorities in Russia say fatally injured a high-ranking military officer in Moscow.

Russian authorities confirmed that Lt Gen Fanil Sarvarov was inside the vehicle that detonated and that he later died to his injuries. A probe is currently ongoing.

The initial step to check the location of where the images were from relied on social media reports indicating the explosion happened on Yasenevaya Ulitsa in the southern district of the Russian capital.

Our analysis employed panoramic mapping services on Google Maps and the Russian search engine Yandex to corroborate the unique yellow hue of a nearby apartment building seen in the video.

Locating other structures, streetlights and the street layout confirmed where the footage were captured.

Additionally, we verified that the videos were recent and that the images had not undergone manipulated.
