Fresh particulars have surfaced about the untimely passing of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were discovered at their residence property on Sunday.
A source indicates referencing a family associate, a massage therapist arriving for an session initially became concerned after not being able to enter the home. The practitioner then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives in the vicinity.
Upon entering the house, Romy discovered her father's body. It is said she then left the home distraught, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also present. Her roommate who had accompanied her then dialed 911. Following this, paramedics located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Authorities have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of first-degree murder, as well as the alleged use of a deadly weapon, reportedly a knife. He is currently being held without bail.
The confidential informant also disputed several initial details. They said that while Romy Reiner told emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a separate structure on the grounds, she did not identify him as a suspect at that time.
The source also disputed widely reported claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "concerned" about Nick's conduct in the weeks leading up to the incident. The source claimed the family was "accustomed to working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement includes descriptions of reportedly "erratic" conduct by Nick at a gathering hosted by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the bodies were found. While the source stated they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they asserted that claims of a "heated argument" between the two were untrue.
According to law enforcement officials, the medical examiner had yet to determine at that point whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports noted the state of their bodies implied they had been deceased for a period of time.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, some 15 miles from the family home. He was due to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his legal counsel, Alan Jackson, indicated his client had a medical issue and would not appear until Wednesday at the earliest.
