Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Booers 'Not True Genuine Fans'

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "they can't be real Spurs supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in two goals in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th top-flight home loss of 2025.

But the primary topic of discussion was Fulham's second score when the keeper lost possession well beyond his box.

He came out to handle a long ball and carried the ball near the touchline.

However, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italian turned and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by Josh King.

King passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the sideline recorded at 36.6 metres.

Seconds afterwards when the ball came to Vicario again, a number of Spurs supporters jeered him.

The team were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.

A particular of those jeering episodes really angered the manager.

"I heard some of our supporters reportedly booed the incident and booed after, which, in my opinion is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented regarding the supporters' response to his shot-stopper.

"Those individuals can't be true Tottenham fans that act that way. Fair enough booing following the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are backing each other, we are with one another going forward."

Tete had handed the visitors a early lead prior to Wilson's strike – with Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second-half showing.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Hart remarked that the second goal was "completely preventable".

"I certainly appreciate the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I know the part Vicario is playing. He is a excellent team player, he's a real figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the decisive score."

'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'

Italy international Vicario is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.

He said following the game that he had to take the criticism.

"That score was a error of my own, I take responsibility for it," he commented.

"The intent was to clear the ball long and I simply struck the ball in a bad way. That made an more difficult mountain to climb."

He said being booed "comes with the game".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "The team can't be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do as they see fit.

"It's on the team to remain more calm, to concentrate on our own performance. We are lacking in composure and calmness to reverse results. Today is a poor loss and it's hard to take."

'I Was Surprised Nobody Returned to the Goal Line'

In spite of Vicario's error, it was far from an easy goal for Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the second longest-range top division goal of the campaign – after Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally also occurred on the same day.

The goalscorer said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty net to target.

Ten moments elapsed between the keeper exiting of his area and Wilson shooting – which was five seconds following the kick.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the area for ages," Wilson said.

"I was surprised none of the back four returned to the goal line. When not one of them covered the goal, my interest sparked a bit.

"Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a bit of additional opportunity. After that it was all about attempting to achieve the correct connection and place it on target. I had a good feeling, the moment it left my boot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Seems to Work Against You'

Although Vicario's error dominated coverage, this was an overall bad day for Spurs to extend their home struggles.

This was their 10th at home loss of 2025 in the league, a joint team record along with nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

The side still have home games against Frank's former club the Bees and title holders Liverpool to come before the close of the season.

Just a single of those victories have occurred after Frank replaced his predecessor in the off-season.

"If you are down 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to climb," stated Frank.

"When you're in a bad spell, everything appears to work against you as well – the opening was a redirected shot, the second is a error from the keeper.

"This result leaves us in a place where we have lost another match. Every game has a unique story, today we lost in the early stages.

"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was much better and with luck something we can use to develop."

Spurs have been defeated in four straight home London derbies for the initial time in the top division.

And they are averaging 9.5 shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the division – their poorest averages on file in a single season (since at least the 2003-04 season).

"He must accept the criticism," the pundit said. "He has taken a prestigious job at a major team with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and duty that accompanies that.
