The American champion Confident of Being 'in a good place' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, after claiming a podium spot for the fourth time in five World Cup races.

The 41-year-old, who recently made history by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Returning to the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking the right line on the first jump," the skier commented. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm happy with my run today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative."

This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in early 2019 because of persistent injuries. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are highly promising.

She already possesses one gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"In Cortina, I will be where I need to be," the athlete confirmed.

Chasing More Titles

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has secured over a career spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a 69-point lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup circuit features a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
