A minimum of 16 lives perished and over 40 were hurt when gunmen fired on a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian police are describing as a act of terrorism.
In the latest update, authorities have announced the number of fatalities is 16, including one of the alleged gunmen. Furthermore, 42 wounded individuals were transported to medical facilities.
The victims are still awaiting formally identified, but investigators think their ages span between 10 and 87 years of age.

London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Known as a father-of-five, he served as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances spoke of him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.
“How is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member remarked.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their newest son just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, according to his wife.
She described the events leading up to the shooting, saying they had been standing together when the shooting started. “He shielded me because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.
The husband and wife were both survivors of the Holocaust, having experienced immense hardship in their childhood. They had later moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.
French authorities have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.
Publicly, the Foreign Minister declared that France shared the grief of his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must put a stop to,” the statement continued.
A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.
One victim from Israel was a fatality in the incident, according to reports citing the Israeli government.
From the 42 people taken to hospitals, many remain under care, with several in a critical state. The injured comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.
A casualty is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the attackers. Called a hero, he sustained bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Sources state he was hurt and is receiving treatment in hospital.
Communicating, he recounted the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the attack. He described he listened to “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.
“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I sustained a gunshot wound. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
