President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to attend the executive mansion.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump addressed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Attendees gathered over the past few days at a local school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to assist policing efforts in DC.
“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers wished for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the media. “She was kind, caring and always willing to support those in need.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old suspect with one count of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The event led the government to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop issuing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Morrisey stated on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed the program that she aimed to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had bravery,” the governor told the gathering at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
